5 Shows You Should Definitely Be Watching on Netflix

So I could probably do like 10 of these posts – and I just might. Because I LOVE TV. Always have, probably always will.

I don’t get to watch it much anymore (hello, motherhood), but I have a nice little routine down. When I eat my lunch, I watch something on Netflix on my computer with headphones in while the kids play. And if everyone finishes their dinner before I get to sit down to eat (which is most nights, because once again, hello motherhood) I watch a little then, too. Other than those two times a day I don’t really watch much, but I get in a little each day that way.

This explains why it takes me about half a year to get through a show. But that’s not the point.

The point is, there are some SUPER good shows out there that if you haven’t seen them, you need to make it happen. Like now. Here are five of my favorites.

5 Shows You Should Definitely Be Watching On Netflix | Haven Gray {the blog}

Gilmore Girls

Growing up in the era that I did, I obviously knew what Gilmore Girls was. But for some reason, I had zero interest in the show when it was on TV. I was more of a Friends, Will and Grace, thirty minute sitcom kind of girl, so this just didn’t seem like a good fit. But finally, last fall I think, I started watching it on Netflix. And holy moly, now I get it! It is so, so good. I absolutely LOVE the relationship between Lorelai and Rory, I love crazy Emily, I love love LOVE the tension between Luke and Lorelai, I love the friendships and the crazy townspeople. It was definitely super cheesy sometimes, but I really loved it. Bonus points to this show too, because they came out with a brand new season – what, early this year? – and it was equally great. LOVE.

OK, I don’t know what was going on with me, but I tried Parenthood out a couple of years ago and just couldn’t get into it. But this is what I’m currently watching and I absolutely ADORE this show. I can’t even tell you how much I am obsessed with it right now. I can never choose a favorite character because they are all so great, but I can tell you my least favorite – Christina. She drives me bonkers. And you know what I figured out? It’s because she reminds me of myself! She’s so tense and anxious and dramatic – it’s hard to watch your worst qualities played out on TV (insert all the crying laughing emojis, because I found this so hysterical once I figured out why she rubs me the wrong way SO intensely). This is the epitome of a feel good, family drama – obsessed.

New Girl

Ya’ll, I will watch a sitcom over a drama any day. I love to laugh, I love ridiculous comedy, and I love that things get wrapped up in such a happy ending (almost always) in thirty minutes. The New Girl cast is phenomenal. This is another show where I can’t choose a favorite character because they are all so great. If you haven’t watched New Girl yet, get on it!! Even the husband likes this one.

How To Get Away With Murder

OMG. This show is insanity. Every single episode ends with me saying OUT LOUD – “WHAT??!?! WHAT IS HAPPENING?? YOU ARE KIDDING ME!!!”. You absolutely positively can never watch this around your children (which is probably apparent by the title alone) but dude, it is so good. It’s pretty gruesome sometimes and can be pretty inappropriate, but if you can handle that then watch this show. Like now.

Hart of Dixie

OK, this is a guilty pleasure that I just fell in love with. It’s SO incredibly cheesy – almost every episode I had a good eye roll or two. But I really, really loved it and I hated that it ended so soon! It actually was around for several seasons, but it felt like it ended pretty abruptly – I think it was canceled? Regardless, this is just a good, heartwarming, pretty family-friendly little show. I mean, I wouldn’t watch it with young kids, but if you’ve got teenagers you’re probably good to go. If you don’t mind large amounts of cheesiness and you need a feel good show, Hart of Dixie is a good one!

Alright, like I said, I have about a zillion shows I could recommend. Chances are, I’ll be back with more suggestions in the future, because I’m not an expert on many things, but I like to pride myself on my knowledge of good (to me) TV. If you decide to watch any of these – or if you’ve got any suggestions for me –  let me know!

Last Minute Valentine’s Day Gifts for The Man In Your Life

Anyone else realize Valentine’s Day was rapidly approaching approximately three minutes before the actual day? I mean, I knew it was coming, but somehow January just flew by and all of the sudden it was here. I have to be honest with you, the husband and I haven’t been super into gift giving the last few years – we typically “give” each other money so we can buy what we really want, but it seems like the last year or so he’s really stepped up his game. Which obviously means I need to do the same.

My husband isn’t super into material gifts. He’s the type that if he wants something, he’ll order it on Amazon before I even know what’s happening. So buying him gifts is either super boring and practical, or I try to get creative and buy him something he would never get himself. Depends on my mood and/or lack of time to buy said gift. But this year I decided to try and do something a little more fun for Valentine’s Day, so I thought I’d share a few of my ideas with all the rest of you last minute shoppers. Good luck, ladies!

  • Alcohol-Related Items

My husband loves nothing more than to relax at the end of the night with a glass (or three) of wine. He also loves mixed drinks, but that seems to be more of a weekend thing for him. But because of this, I know that anything alcohol-related is going to be a win with him. For Christmas I got him a cool set of scotch glasses that he loved, and I also have given him several little things that come in handy – masculine looking wine corks, a stirring spoon, fancy bottle opener, etc. There are so many fun little accessories in this realm these days that you’re guaranteed to find something just about anywhere you go – but I will say I found a ton of good stuff at Target (duh), so that’s probably a good place to start.

  • Something Sexy

This is definitely a G-rated blog I run over here, but I mean….come on. Valentine’s Day is supposed to be the most romantic of all days, right? I still don’t totally understand why that’s the case, but apparently it is. So let’s be real – your husband would probably be totally overjoyed if you bought “yourself” a little something that was really more for him. Hit up Victoria’s Secret and I promise he won’t be mad about it. And I’ll leave it at that, just in case my dad happens to read this post…

  • A Date Night

I’m pretty sure any guy out there would love for his lady to take charge and plan a super fun date night. But if you’ve got kids, I know for a fact that your hubs is probably DYING for a night out with his hot wife without the loud, disruptive, beautiful children that the two of you created. You can keep it basic and do dinner and drinks or a movie date, or you can find a local winery or brewery and do a tour/tasting type thing. Or you can pretend like you’re a young, carefree dating couple and do something fun like bowling or miniature golf, hit up a driving range if he’s a golfer – the possibilities are endless here, friends!

  • Cheesy Coupon Book

OK, we’ve all seen these and probably have rolled our eyes a little at the concept. But if you’re semi-crafty and short on time (because, hello, V-Day is tomorrow ladies) this could actually be fun. Steal some construction paper from your kids and get to work. There are so many different “coupons” you could put in one of these babies – a night out with his guy friends, a Saturday to sleep in uninterrupted, a day on the golf course, a massage, a date night out, a night in a hotel without kids…you know your man! Throw 10 coupons together and he’ll be a happy camper – but you’ve kind of got to follow through here, so keep that in mind.

  • Something Hobby-Related

I hear that most guys have hobbies, yes? My husbands hobby is working apparently, and wouldn’t you know his favorite gifts are always work related in some way. New work shoes, dress shirts, a nice watch, a new suitcase, etc. If your guy loves to fish, get him a new tackle box with whatever it is that they put inside those things. If he’s into beer, get him a little home brewing kit or a subscription to a beer of the month club – I Googled it, there are a ton of them. If he loves sports, tickets to a game. Men really are pretty simple when it comes down to it, so this isn’t super complicated.

Well friends, you’ve still got a little while to throw something together before the big day. And if you can’t get it together by tomorrow, do what I did and plan a date night for Friday or Saturday – that gives you like four or five more days to get things taken care of!

Happy Valentine’s Day!!!!

Haven Gray – The Blog

Life is funny, and one thing I’ve learned in my time here on earth is that you can never predict the future. I’ve been a “blogger” for more than five years now, but my heart hasn’t been in it for a a few years. I struggled to find my passion for writing, and when I did, I would lose focus and revert back to the same thing I’d always done – which was a whole lot of posting about my boys and our daily lives. Although I definitely think there is a time for those types of posts, I never felt passionate about writing them.

Recently, I’ve been feeling the urge to write again. My life has been turned upside down within the last 10 months or so, in an incredible way, and I know that this is where the passion to write is stemming from. I have been learning so much, soaking in such good stuff for the past several months, and I want to share it. I also want to share my thoughts and feelings along the way. I’ve been doing this a lot on my Instagram account, but I’ve been feeling led to do something more with it. So here we are.

The thing that turned my life upside down was actually God. That still sounds almost silly to me, because it is the absolute last thing I was expecting or looking for. For many, many years I had been perfectly content to keep God very far from my life – I always said if I felt like something was missing then I might consider pursuing the whole “God thing”, but I never felt that urge. However, for some reason it appears that God decided it was time, and things started happening almost without any effort on my part. It’s been an interesting time, and although it isn’t something I was searching for, I can’t begin to explain how thankful I am that it happened.

I feel like there are several things that God has in store for me, and I think this new online space might be a part of it all. I also feel like the online boys clothing shop that I launched with my mom a few months ago, Haven Gray Kids, plays a role as well. I have big, big hopes and dreams for the places that my life might go over the next few years, and I’m believing that they will come to pass. I hope that this blog will be an outlet where I can share as things begin to unfold.

So with that, Haven Gray {the blog} is officially launched. Thanks for stopping by, friends.
